When Carol was a young child, she would pick a bunch of wildflowers at the end of the day after helping her mother in the vineyard. Next to the Merlot block was a creek that would only run during winter. At the bottom of the creek, lily plants grew and produced elegant, white flowers. It was always such a beautiful sight and were the perfect flowers for her mother. The Lily Creek Merlot is sourced from the only grapes not grown on our family estate – they come from Carol’s parents’ property, next to the creek where the lilies still grow.

Vintage Notes
The growing season for the 2020 vintage started dry and continued that way. Much of the rainfall was below average for all the months. The 2019 calendar year was the driest on record for the Nuriootpa weather station. With the extreme weather conditions through November and into December saw below average bunch size and smaller than normal berry size. The flavours and colours and overall quality is exceptional.
Winemaker's Notes
Colour: Ruby Red with bright hue.
Nose: Plum, Raspberry, and touches of Mulberry.
Palate: A fine and elegant structure with sweet mouth filling berry fruits. Rich spicy notes to form a delicate structure.
The 2020 Lost Penny Lily Creek Merlot has an overall sweet, spiced nose and palate with an elegant structure and fills the mouth delicate berry flavours. This wine will continue grow and evolve over the years if not enjoyed in its young youthful age.

Ruby-red colour with some garnet flecks coming through. It's spicy with hints of forest tones surrounding a plush core of juicy blackcurrants and plums. The oak's presence is noted, but its core and weight of fruit hold up to it.

Matured in French oak barrels for 18 months. Crimson in the glass with aromas of ripe plum fruits with hints of blackberry jam, licorice, vanillin oak, chocolate and purple floral tones. Medium bodied with some powdery tannin grip and a nice drink though it lacks the detail to score higher... a touch of alcohol heat on the finish too.

Northern Barossa Valley merlot aged in French oak for 18 months. Ruby-red with notes of ripe plum, raspberry and cranberry fruits underscored with fine spice, cassis, dried herbs, light blossom flecks and softly spoken oak. Some sour morello cherry sweeps in on the palate, which shows some nice plump merlot fruit, billowy tannins and a nervy blast of acidity as the fine fades away.

Medium to deep red/purple hue. Pungent raspberry and rank tomato-bush herbal aromas. The palate is medium-weight with a slight dip in the centre, and some shrillness from acidity.

Ebenezer growers Carol and Nick Riebke headed to a vineyard near Angaston to source the merlot for this release. High-toned, gently-spiced red fruits appear first along with hints of red licorice and purple flowers with a light, sappy flourish. Sitting at the lighter end of medium bodied, with bright acidity and sandy tannins, the wine leaves a sapid, red cherry vapour trail on the finish.
